Trileptal side effects

Anyone have any strange side effects while taking Trileptal?
Like tingling in the face, numb gums? Throat getting tight?
And can this stuff work right away?
All my pdoc said was that if my throat was tight and if I felt as if I couldn't swallow---to go to the ER.
I could really use some feedback on this. I have tried almost everything else, as much as the military will cover, and I don't want to continue like this.....
