I just started the XR version of Xanax last friday. The pdoc had me taking 0.5mg of the immediate release "1 per day as needed for anxiety." At my appointment when she was about to write the new script for the XR she said, "So you're taking 3 of the 0.5's a day right?" -- "No, just once in the morning ussually, seems to wear off mid-day but the calming effects seem to linger on through the rest of the day. But I would like to have 'full' coverage throughout the day." So I guess based on that she thought that 0.5 XR would be enough. Thus far it hasn't seemed to help much, if any. My Q is, does the XR have the same "potency" as the immediate release but just last longer; or is it spreading the 0.5 out throughout the day? I am guessing it is the latter just because it seems to have no effect compared to the IR. Thanks!
