There is a theory that people who become sedated from taking stimulating dopaminergic drugs have a problem with hypersensitive dopamine autoreceptors. That be said, I don't know if Wellbutrin quite qualifies, but Provigil would, as would the amphetamines. In my case, I reacted fairly normally to Wellbutrin, experiencing a "wired" effect and insomnia at first that went away after a week or so. I never found Wellbutrin outright sedating but was able to take the 2nd dose of 2 x 150 mg/day of the SR version right at bedtime and sleep like a log, which I don't believe most people are able to do.OTOH, Provigil made me extremely sedated and barely able to function, which lends credence to me having this hypersensitive autoreceptor thing. I am currently taking Parnate, which is not sedating for me and which I am hopeful will downregulate these receptors, realizing, of course, that this is just a hypothesis as to what's going on. I'm afraid I completely lack familiarity with mood stabilizers and have no idea what effect that might be having in your situation.
