In reply to Ativan Withdrawals, posted by theta99 on July 23, 2004, at 23:33:55
I checked into a facility recently for alcoholism. WHen I checked in they took away my Ativan. I was on about 3-4 mg daily for years for GAD. Going cold turkey was a nightmare beyond words. I am now back on Ativan after having tried the antidepressant route. In fact, I am having trouble coming off of them. Anyways, when the time is right I am gonna stop the Ativan. However, this time it will be very slowly. That is the point I am trying to make here. Take it very slowly. Going cold turkey off anything isn't supposed to be done, especially with a benzo.
> I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with Ativan withdrawals? I was prescribed the ativan for anxiety to take "as needed," and found it helped with my insomnia, so at the recommendation of my psychiatrist I took 1-2 mg at night only. Did so for appx. 7 weeks and decided to try sleeping and dealing with the anxiety without ativan. My doc never warned me of any problems going cold turkey, and since stopping 5 days ago I've felt miserable (tremors, confusion, nausea, general feeling of uneasiness & malaise, etc.), only attributable to going off the ativan. Any recommendations for tapering off and helping the symptoms?
