I've tried every SSRI besides luvox and found that effexor is more tolerable than any of them, especially in terms of sedation. And in terms of efficacy, the ssri's never came close to its benefit as an antidepressant for me.Remember to take all the posts on this board with a grain of salt. the only reason that most of us have found this board is because we are treatment-resistant types and have a laundry list of failed attempts with medications and resulting adverse effects.
Effexor is the most likely next step after a failed trial with one or more SSRIs. So it seems the logical choice for you at this point.
oh, and by the way, there is a withdrawl from effexor -- as there is for the ssris as well. but done properly, you will not experience any severe adverse effects. I myself have come off effexor three times. A cross-taper period onto prozac is probably the best strategy.
I'd get off the wellbutrin xl in the meantime or keep it at a low dose of 150 mg while you start a new med. you can always add it back in later.
