I've taken both Topamax, and Zonegran for migraine prevention.
Topamax had lots of side effects. The usual extreme cognitive effects at the beginning (which passed after about a month), tingling sensations in hands & feet, inability to taste some things, appetite suppression, and eventually, serious dental problems (which made me discontinue it). It worked fabulously as a migraine preventive.
Tried Zonegran to replace Topamax. No bad cognitive effects, but it made me feel very irritable so I didn't stay on it long.
Hope this helps.
