In reply to What meds really help Essential Tremor?, posted by shadows721 on February 16, 2004, at 21:12:32
During my son's initial treatment for Schizophrenia, he was first given Lexapro and Abilify. Within a month he had terrible tremors and refused to take the meds anymore. I attribute the tremors to Lexapro. His Psy Dr. switched him to Zyprexa for Schiz. but no new AD was prescribed until he had a panic attack and then he was put on Klonopin too. With Lexapro and Abilify out of his life he gradually lost the tremors, but still had psychomotor ticks which worsened after his panic attack. Shortly after he ended up in a crisis center where he was switched From Klonopin to 50 mg Zoloft and his Zyprexa was increased from 10 to 20 mg. He was also given Artane because it was initially believed he had Parkinsonian tremors. After 6 months on the Zyprexa and Zoloft combo his ticks, tremors and panic attacks have all gone away. His Artane was discontinued 3 months ago and did not effect his condition whatsoever. I can't say if Artane will help, but that is it's purpose(tremor control). It is a possibility that Lexapro increases or causes tremor? Zoloft is quite effective for many conditions other than depression so it also may help reduce tremor?
Dosage is also critical with most medications so 50 mg of Zoloft may not help but 75 may make all the difference. In other words too much or not enough of a drug doesn't mean that it doesn't work, it just means that if one individual is given the correct amount for his metabolism it may work well where it may be too much or to little for another individual. Hope this Helps.
