My panic attacks tend to start off slowly. I get a tightening in my throat and usually a long hot flush. My heart tends to beat faster and without realising, my breathing quickens. I look down to see my hands starting to shake and suddenly have the overwhleming urgency to get out of where ever i am and in to somewhere cooler. I start to fight the panic and rational thoughts leave my head. I start to panic and get frightend about how my body is going to react this time.
I look around me and see the people I know and care being blissfully unaware of how frightend i am but am too petrified to tell them how I'm feeling. My chest is starting to tighten and I'm finding it more and more difficult to breathe.
I stand up, walk out of reception and to the outside. The air is cool and fresh. I take a deep breath to release the tightness in my chest. Slowly, the shaking eases and I begin to calm down. My only fear now, is, will it happen again when I walk back in...I'm 21 and have been suffering for four years. My attacks aren't so bad that my doctor has put me on medication but I totally agree with the sentiments that some of you have mentioned.
It is probably one of the most frightening experiences any one person can have and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. At least we know, we're not alone
