I was first seduced by the claims that this expensive drug was a cognitive enhancer. My memory, focus and concentration were all suffering. (I am 52 and just a little worried about slowing mental function since my job unrelentingly demands all my intellectual skills on demand).
It worked. My memory improved tremendously. I regained the abiliy to concentrate and focus at very deep levels. I could shift concentration between disparate tasks with intense focus on demand. And I didn't forget what I was I'd been thinking in previous tasks that often were often disrupted without warning.
But guess what? I suffer from depression, stress-related axiety disorder and a lack of drive and motivation. My drive has picked up tremendously.
My depression is significantly improved. (Depression is treated with Paxil and Remaron with limited success. The Remaron made an impreovement because it brought norepinephine into play. I speculate that the Provigil augments the norepinephine function.). My mood improved. My stress levels are way down. Also suffer from SAD. My soial interactions and assertiveness are vastly improved.
I spend alot of time looking at boards where users (unscientifically) evaluate the success of various approaches to dealing with their problems. Provigil is ranked at or near the top for stress and depression.
This stuff is hard to afford but worth it. I hope it doesn't poop out.
And a bonus effect: Coping with sleep deprivation. When I am frequently sleep deprived, even severely, the Provigil vanquishes the symptoms. I have used it to stay up all night when I had to read technical literature. Alternately, I have taken it and been able to fall asleep without problem, as opportunity presents.
