Hi kashley, I'm bipolar. Effexor works well for me. My doctor added Topamax yep-not only to aid in weight loss from the weight I gained from all the other psych meds over the years but as an add-on to balance out my moods. He wanted to see if not being on any antidepressants would work for me-it was something I had never tried before. Unfortunately a low dose of Effexor with the Topamax works just fine.
As far as the time of day I take my Topamax....I have had to experiment. Currently, I am taking 100mg at 3pm and 100mg at 10pm, it seems to be working. I can't take Effexor any later than 7am or I'm up at night!> Hi Gal,

> Gal, what's your psyche diagnosis? So, you're on Effexor (great stuff, ain't it?), but then your doctor added the Topomax because .... ? To lose some of the weight that you had gained on previous meds?

> And here's a general question to all of you on Topomax -- what time of day do you take it? I decided to start off taking it in the evening when I get home from work. Since fatigue could be a side effect, I don't want to be falling asleep on the job! But, I'm a bit worried about the evening dosage.

> See, ever since I started taking Effexor last year, I sleep really well and have the BEST dreams (I rarely used to dream, rarely had nice ones and rarely remembered them during my waking hours). On Effexor, I dream EVERY night, the dreams are pleasant, almost always feature people that I know and like, many are in color and I remember them after I wake up. That's a really neat thing, ya know? And I don't want evening doses of Topamax to screw that up.

> Okay, back to the weight thing. I'm curious -- those of you who have lost weight on Topamax (for whatever reasons) will you all gain the weight back if you taper down your dosage or go off of it? Is it really nothing more than a prescription diet pill with mood-enhancing effects???
