I am on my 2nd trial of remeron. I was on it over a year ago for 3 months and had a lot of "sponge head" feeling. Yes, it is good for sleep, but I wouldn't say it is the best solution for sleep. After a year of horrible sleep I am trying it again. I had pretty much the same result, but 30 mg was just too much. I am now on 15 mg and it is helping with sleep and the sponge head problems are much less.
My question would be: How do you feel on paxil? Do you have anxiety AND depression? Remeron is pretty good for anxiety and I am reaping some benefits for depression too. I am more stable, I think, but I do have some sexual dysfunction from it. Just not as interested in sex as I usually am, this could be the fact that my wife is out of town too...ha ha.
I think remeron is worth a shot, but if you discontinue it go slow too. I had rebound insomnia and anxiety when I quit last time. I do have some anger issues that I didn't have before remeron, but those seem to go away so don't get too spooked if you have some weird thoughts. Please check the side effects of remeron. I think this gives one some comfort knowing that the med is causing some side effects and some of these are transient.
Remeron is not an ssri or TCA, I believe it is a class all by itself, but others would know more about that. It does affect noradrenaline and serotonin. I did have a panic like attack ONE time when I started it after about 4 days, but only that one time.
If paxil isn't cutting it for you remeron might be one that helps you the best. I wish I could give you some more and say it is the answer, but one has to try it. Sleep is a big issue for me and I can say the last 3 weeks have been better for sleep than I have had in the last year. Sleep is vital for recovery in my opinion. Good luck and if you have any other questions let me know. take carejohnj
Oh, I also take nortryptline, lithium, and a benzo. Yes, I am a walking chemically enhanced machine :) I am unipolar depression with lots of anxiety.
Something else I forgot. A buddy of mine takes regular paxil in the morning and it helps him very much. Maybe time of day may help? Also, various people, including myself, take supplements. I would get some C, B-complex, and for anxiety some niacinamide(not niacin). Please start one at time. If you add them all at once and things are wacky you won't know what caused it. I have learned this from some very kind people here. They are truley my cyber pals that understand what we go through. Follow the posts by Larry Hoover, jrbecker for some extremely informative info, and Ron Hill has great experience with niacinamide so ask him about it. Good luck
