I am wondering if any of you have heard of a connection between lexapro and decreased platelet count. A relative had been on lexapro for two months; during a "routine" screening for cholesterol, the platelet count was way below normal; retests confirmed this. Person had been bruising abnormally, hence initial concern. Person is off lexapro; it will be a matter of time to see wherever the cause of the effect is lexapro.
I've scoured the websites, and the closest thing to this side effect I found was a increased risk of stroke, which doesn't seem really related to me (a medical ignorant).
I am in a hideously ironic position; if such a relationship is established, we've stumbled on a quite serious and apparently undocumented side effect (albeit one that could be looked for in the future); if not, then my relative may be suffering from any number of very serious ailments.
Any enlightenment will be gratefully appreciated.
