Hi Janelle
My experiences were the same as Ritch's. Buspar is fantastic as an augmentor with other meds, but perhaps less interesting on its own because it is useless for panic and depression. However, I think there is really nothing that beats Buspar for generalized anxiety. Its value over benzos is that it is relatively easy to withdraw from and you can have a drink now and then without passing out. I think the reason the drug gets a bad rap is because it is not as nuanced nor as comprehensive a drug as ssris are - it just subtely removes any anticipatory anxiety without really boosting mood.
One thing: if you were only taking it once a day, you might have not experienced its full effects. Better to take it two or three times a day, with the doses spaced out.
Best of luck,
jflange (Buspar, 10mgs/day - with Zoloft)
