In reply to Ativan: what to do for the next 5 nights?, posted by agencypanic on May 8, 2003, at 17:06:49
It sounds like you're taking Ativan mostly to help you sleep, not for anxiety? Well, daytime anxiety anyway - nighttime anxiety can definitely interfere with sleeping.
I sometimes use an over-the-counter antihistamine, Benadryl, to help me sleep. It makes me really sleepy, but takes about an hour from when I take the pill. If you try it, you may want to try it when you don't have to get up early the next day, in case you have a hangover.
Hope this helps. I can imagine you're not sleeping too well. There are also the non-drug things that are supposed to help with sleeping. One I have found sometimes helpful is taking a hot bath about 2 hours before bedtime. Not right before, but 2 hours before. I think the temperature change mimics what your body does naturally when it's time to sleep.
