p-doc appt tommorow, need help/suggestions

Posted by Caleb462 on April 17, 2003, at 1:02:36

Okay... here's the deal. I am currently on Effexor 150 mg/day and Risperdal 0.5 mg/day. Effexor worked fairly well for depression for about a month then pooped out. Risperdal - have noticed no effects. I have terrible, terrible anxiety problems, am currently in a bad episode of major depression with extreme anhedonia being the most prominent symptom (though I've started taking SAM-e and I think it is helping). I also have OCD, and probably ADD... so yeah, I'm pretty bad off.

I am most concerned with the constant anxiety at this point, as 50% of my depression is fueled by the anxiety. I've tried 3 different SSRIs in the past, and now Effexor + Risperdal... and my anxiety level has not changed. Doc gave me Vistaril to take as needed, but I need something for every single day. I suggested Klonopin in the past, but he turned it down.

So... what meds could I suggest? He isn't keen on benzos. Is Lamictal useful for anxiety?? If so, will it worsen depression and is the anti-anxiety effect immediate? What about Neurontin? Anything else? Gabitril perhaps?

Also, should I try the Klonopin angle again? I know he's against benzos for the most part, but I was hoping he might give in since I'm still suffering. Is there anything I could say to sway his opinion? Any good links I could show him?

Thanks a lot.
