Need OCD drug- SSRi's too activating-med sensitive

Posted by babs on February 11, 2003, at 14:44:51

Sorry- this is a long one!I need a med change and am thinking about seeking a second opinion from a psychopharmacologist. I have unipolar depression, ADD, GAD and obsessive thoughts (how's that for a recipe?). I'm on 60 mg of Celexa, i.5 mg of risperdal and 15mg adderall. Here's the problem- the Celexa is to activating and it makes my ADD much worse. It was mild before but ever since I went on the celexa I needed a stim to treat it. I also had an incomplete reaction to the Celexa- was still irritable, anxious and obsessive. So we added neurontin which helped with anxiety and irritability but did nothing for the obsessions. Then I switched to risperdal, worked great on the obsessions but I gained 60 pounds! Tried to switch to geodon- way too activating. I was vomiting from the anxiety and it made my obsessions even worse. Have has similar reactions to Propzac and Lexapro. So now I'm back to square one and don't know where to look next. My doctor suggested seroquel because it has a better side effect profile in terms of weight gain. I'm wondering about adding topamax to counteract weight gain. I'm also wondering about Anafranil as I had a good response to imipramine (I was on it for 11 years and it worked on everything but the obsessions. I need some advice.
