For depression a dose of 1g daily of EPA,one of the two main components of omega-3 would be a reasonable dose.Higher doses in depression do not seem to be more effective in a small short survey reported recently. However individual response to omega-3 is quite variable and a higher dose may be worth trying after a few weeks on the lower dose.It is usual to use standard anti-depressant medication at the same time,at least for some time.
