Aripiprazole (Abilify) for depression guinea pig

Posted by neetie on December 1, 2002, at 19:16:09

Hi all,

I'm a Psychpharm Tips old-timer but haven't been active here for about a year. I just started taking aripiprazole (Abilify) for depression 5 days ago. I'm taking 7.5 mg right now, maybe going up to 15 mg (for schizophrenia the average dose is 10-30 mg). My pdoc got samples early because he was involved in the clinical trials, and he says in the schizophrenic population it was particularly good for depression and energy.

So far the side effects are VERY mild: vague ill feeling, kinda like I drank too much coffee; disinhibition (the filter between my brain and my mouth is weakening, which is good and bad); mild restlessness, maybe a little irritability. Generally not unlike a tiny dose of Ritalin. So far can't tell how it's working for depression, but I'm actually getting off my couch and doing stuff, which is pretty remarkable (I have atypical depression). I'm also taking Zoloft and Lamictal and weaning off Risperdal.

If anyone ends up taking this drug for depression I'd like to hear your experiences. **SLS, if you're reading this, drop me a line -- I'd like to hear how you're doing. Maybe this drug would be good for you?
