I agree with katekite: never say never! I have been on many antidepressants and have had ECT and I can tell from my experience that I have had periods where my depression cleared and I was 100% normal.

I have relapsed since then, but I think it's more probable that it is due to the fact that I was untreated for a long time and developed refractory cycling.

When I'm depressed, which is often, I feel as if I will never get well and that my brain has been permanently damaged. However, when I feel well, even if it's for a few hours, I feel as though I've finally whipped this thing and I will never be sick again.

I don't think anyone can say our brains will never recover.
