Contrary side effects

Posted by madison88 on August 11, 2002, at 3:35:10

I have noticed that a couple of medicines I have taken cause side effects that are opposite what are "normally" experienced. When I first started Gabitril at 2mg I got uncomfortable throbbing in my joints. When I tried to go up to 4mg they became terrible pains and I had to cut back to 2mg. I understand that Gabitril is sometimes used for pain, although in my case it worked really well for my mood swings when other stuff didn't so that I really wanted to stay on it. I tried twice more to go up to 4mg and the third time the pain wasn't bad, so I have stayed there. I know there is a technical term for experiencing opposite effects of what are usually experienced, but I can't think of it. Does anybody know what I am talking about? Is it possible I just had to get used to Gabitril until the abnormal side effects went away?

I am wondering if there are characteristics that make some people more susceptible to having opposite side effects than others. I have also experienced "quakes" in my head, I understand those are like mini seizures, but they have gotten worse since I tried Neurotin, which I stopped taking because it caused blurred vision. Both Neurotin and Gabitril are suppose to be antileptics. Again, is this a side effect opposite what the drugs are suppose to do?
