I wish I knew more about these drugs for you. I do know that the tricyclics often have more side effects than the ssris. Some people do get used to it so don't despair -- it's worth a shot.
A few weeks though should be enough to decide whether the side effects are lessening, so you are in the final lap for this drug: either it won't get better in another week or so and you will have to quit, or the side effects will lessen.
Desipramine is supposed to be activating: should be the right idea for atypical depression.
I was going to suggest benadryl for the dizzyness but just checked and realized tricyclics already are anti-histamines and that might just make things worse...
Maybe monday just take a lower dose of it? Just for the first day?
Be sure to drink plenty of water to keep yourself completely hydrated. If nauseated it's easy to get dehydrated from not wanting to even go near the kitchen.
