> Hello. I am currently taking zyprexa and I have a question. Does taking Zyprexa in an of itself cause the weight gain, or does it just cause an increase in your apetite causing you to eat more therefore causing the weight gain? I take it for its calming effect, is there something else Which could be substituted for it to help with inner agitation/racing thoughts? Thanks for your help. Teddy

Teddy, The Zyprexa in and of itself causing weight gain by changing the metabolism. It does cause carbohydrate cravings, however, I gained 17 lbs. on Zyprexa eating less than I did one year ago. For agitation, Klonopin (a benzo) or Buspar are both good. Good luck. Mimi
