Hi I really need to understand the differences between clomipramine and zoloft. I have obtained the following information, but need some further enlightenment as to its meaning.
Regarding the effects of antidepressants on Neurotransmitters/Receptors:
Norepinephrine Reuptake: Clomapramine 1-10, Zoloft 100-1,000. Does this mean that clomapramine is a stronger inhibiter of norepinephrine?
5HT (hdroxytryptamine) Reputake: both drugs are equal in seratonin reuptake inhibition. 1-10
DA (dopamine) reuptake clomapramine is 1,000-10,000 while zoloft is 100-1,000. Does this mean that zoloft is the stronger inhibiter of dopamine. Is dopamine related to seratonin?
Blockade 5HT (1) Both drugs are equal in blockade of this receptor rated at 1,000-10,000.
Blockade 5HT(2) Clomapramine is rated at 10-100 while zoloft is rated at 1,000 to 10,000. Does this mean zoloft is the stronger blockade of this receptor. How significant is this difference. How many 5HT (2) receptors are there?
Blockade of Ach Acetylcholine. Clomapramine is rated at 10-100 while zoloft is rated at 1,000-10,000.
Blockade of H (1)Histamine. Clomapramine is rated at 10-100 while zoloft is rated at 10,000-
100,000.Blockade of x(1) Clomipramine is rated at 10-100 while zoloft is rated at 100-1,000.
Blockade of x (2) Clomipramine and zoloft are rated the same at 1000-10,0000.
Blockade of D(2) Clomipramine is rated at 100-1,000 while zoloft is rated at 10,000-100,000.
Since zoloft has a stronger blockade action on many receptors, does this mean it is stronger in its seratonin action. I developed a reaction to zoloft that was explained to me as being caused by spikes in seratonin, or elevated seratonin levels. I have ocd. I used to be able to take clomipramine, but am struggling to determine why I had a problem with zoloft when the two drugs appear to be similar in seratonin action. If anyone could elaborate on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
