Ben - I've been on Lofepramine twice for a period of six months each, for my last two episodes of major depression, approximately seven years and 10 years ago. A few years before that I'd been successfully treated with Limbitrol, which is a combination of Amitriptyline and a benzo.

I found Lofepramine worked extremely well, with minimal side effects (slight headache, dizziness and flushing). All the research I've read suggests that people find Lofepramine much more tolerable than the older tricyclics. I didn't feel 'medicated' - it was neither stimulating nor sedating, and just made me feel like my normal self. If I remember rightly, I took two tablets (70mg) in the morning and one at night.

This time when I tried Lofepramine again, the side effects were a lot more problematic. But in retrospect I think I probably gave up too soon, and should have started on a lower dose and worked up. The anxiety/agitation side effects from Citalopram were much worse, and I found Mirtazapine too sedating.

Are you writing from the UK, Ben, as I don't think Lofepramine is easily available outside Europe?

Good luck

Lizzy
