In reply to ANYONE'S ANXIETY HELPED BY A STIMULANT?, posted by jaby on April 4, 2002, at 18:55:52
Hi Jaby,
Yes, my anxiety is greatly reduced by stimulants, especially Dexedrine. I've tried almost every antidepressant known to man, and the antidepressants either make me more depressed and exhausted, or they make me very anxious and unable to focus. Wellbutrin caused me to have a lot of anxiety, heart palpitations and severe insomnia. I tried it for a long time, hoping those adverse effects would go away. I also tried combining it with a number of other meds in an attempt to cut down on the anxiety, insomnia, etc. Finally, my doctor prescribed Dexedrine, and it is the only med that has ever really helped my depression and anxiety. The problem is that I have to take breaks from it fairly often because tolerance does develop. In addition, I'm unable to take more than 25-30 mg. If I go above 25 mg, I get so tired, I can't do anything. Adderall, a mixture of amphetamine salts, gives me a little bit more physical energy than Dexedrine, but it also makes me more anxious and has more of an effect on the cardiovascular system than Dexedrine.
I hope this helps.
