Mirtazapine and moclobemide together?

Posted by Jenna S. on December 10, 2001, at 15:58:53

I'm writing this on behalf of my bf, who has depression and anxiety which are very resistant to treatment.

The only time that he felt the depression was really lifted, and the anxiety under control, during several years of drugs and drug combos, was when he took moclobemide after taking mirtazapine. He says he felt normal for 2 weeks, then the effect went away. It could have been that moclobemide worked and then stopped working, but on a subsequent trial of moclobemide alone ramping up to high doses (900mg), there was no recurrence of this effect. Mirtazapine taken alone also does not work.

So we have been contemplating trying them both together, but of course can't do that unless it would be safe. Does anyone know if it could be possible to combine these two?

Jenna
