I recently began taking Zyprexa (in addition to a complex mix of other meds for BPII), on an as needed basis. As needed for me means when I get into an especially obsessive, agitated, and depressed state, which generally happens in reaction to outside stressors. I take only a quarter or half of a 2.5mg tab. The longest I have taken it is for 3 days, twice a day. About half the time it has helped to interrupt/check my extreme state, and abate the depression- with just one or two 'hits'. When I took it for 3 days, even for 2, I found that it gave me a spacey kind of depression rather than a boost. So I'm glad to have it as a back-up, but would not consider for me it on an on-going basis (even without the weight gain issue).

I tried Geodon right after my first try on Zyprexa, and took it continuously (at 10mg, hard to do because 20mg caps are the lowest available) for almost a week. My reaction, which seems not to be typical of posters here, was that I felt disassociated and spacey- maybe similar to what you mean by 'lobotomized'.
