In reply to Seroquel: Is it addictive?, posted by Cass on January 22, 2001, at 15:21:24
Yes, I had some trouble getting off seroquel. I tapered slowly from 150 mg to 25 mg a day, which was enough to help me sleep (part of the reason I was prescribed meds was for insomnia). But that last 25 mg was hard to give up, possibly because I was also on a low-carbohydrate (low serotonin)diet at the time. I stayed awake for 48 hours after taking my last dose of serotonin. Finally, I was so exhausted, I dug the bottle of seroquel out of the trash, took 50 mg, and ate a big piece of bread with butter...and an hour later I was out cold. But I was determined not to renew my prescription and I haven't. The first few days after I ran out of seroquel, I took kava to help me relax and Excedrin PM to help me sleep. I still have some trouble sleeping without the seroquel, but otherwise I'm fine.
