Just recently I had to quit Remeron because I have a serious GI problem that is worsened by Remeron constipating effect. My question is what other AD's are on the sedating side of the chart? Those seem to be the ones that work for me. My doc is pushing Celexa, but I had a brief experience of insomnia with this. thanks very much.

That's a tough one Danny, and unfortunately I don't know of any way to predict what might be a better choice. It's not uncommon for a med to produce opposite side effects of what would be expected. Zoloft or Celexa are certainly options to try in the category that has worked for you.

Here's another idea though. You might get started again on your favorite so far. Either Paxil or Luvox. Then add something else to it in an effort to maintain the good effects. A top candidate to accomplish this could include low dose Lithium (attractive choice, well-documented, low side effects at low dose). I might have suggested Nortriptyline as well, except it would only aggravate the constipation issue. Other additions might include low dose Depakote or Tegretol. Since your meds worked for you but then pooped out, that indicates some kind of electrical or chemical instability, and thus the idea of adding stabilizers. Another choice could be Zyprexa. But regardless of which one(s) you try, I think they would be best combined with a drug that has already proven to you that it can work, like Paxil or Luvox.

Hope something here is helpful.
John
