A.,
Here's a guideline for discontinuing Xanax, which is a shorter-acting, but potent benzo like Klonopin.
http://lexington-on-line.com/naf_xanax.html
The problem is that Xanax and Klonopin are not equal in strength, mg. for mg., but the philosophy is still the same. I can't imagine that your doctor won't help you withdraw from this drug, because you really should be doing this under your doctor's supervision.
If I were withdrawing from Klonopin, I would do so very, very slowly. At the very least, I would decrease my Klonopin intake by no more than .25 per day, and I would hold that for at least two weeks, then decrease by another .25 for another two weeks. Some doctors also use Valium to help patients get off Klonopin since Valium is long-acting but isn't as potent. For instance, when you've tapered to a point where you're starting to feel uncomfortable, you might want to consider switching to Valium to finish your taper.
Just my 2 cents worth. You really should be doing this under your doctor's supervision, especially if you've experienced convulsions and seizures already.

> I'm Interested in any tips and advice in the self withdrawl from a high level klonopin (6mg/day) long term addiction. Klonopin is causeing a need for higher levels of other meds in the treatment of my Bipolar 1 Disorder. Cold turkey attempt ended with convulsions and Seizures. Dr. only lukewarm on idea to withdraw but I'm more serious. Knonopin's adverse reactions mirror my bipolar systoms doubling up my risk factors.
