Lynne - Seroquel is classed as an atypical antipsychotic (like Zyprexa, Risperdal and Clozaril). It is completely different from Xanax as it blocks serotonin and dopamine receptors (as well as others), where Xanax helps GABA slow the release of other neurotransmitters.
Like Zyprexa and others Seroquel is designed to help stop ruminating thoughts. 25mg is a low dose. Keep taking this dose as long as it works. Sometimes the dose does need to be increased, but not always.
Hope this helps - Cam.
