Have you tried Naltrexone at all? I've taken it for alcoholism and it seems to work pretty well for me. It's generally prescribed to block the opiate receptors and remove the "high". It's now being used mostly for opiate abuse. It has also been found to have the added benefit of having some AD properties. It won't stop what your body has to go through to detox but it does stop the cravings.
As a slight disclaimer this comes from an alcoholic without having had drug problems. I think I knew early that I became addicted to alcohol too easily and knew that I couldn't get involved with drugs - prescription or otherwise.
It may be worth a try.
