I am bipolar, as is my brother. There is depression and bipolar rampant in my family history.
The two of us are either alcoholics or LOVE to drink.
I have read many articles that say that the gene responsible for bipolar, uni-depression, alcoholism, narcississtic personality, add, are of the same origin.
Many of my relatives did not have a alcohol problem, but that is because they were very religious and wouldn't have tried drinking.

So, in conclusion, when you are sucepsible (sp) to something, you should do all you can to avoid conributing factors.
Just like if you have a family history of certain types of cancer, high blood pressure, allergies, diabetes, etc.....you need to be aware of the problems.
Stress will bring out whatever you are susceptible to.
