akathisia & tardive akathisia

I am a QMRP (Qualified Mental Retardation Professional) at Southwest Louisiana Developmental Center. My background is in Special Education, as a teacher, and as a Case Manager for the MR/DD population. This is my first experience working in a residential setting with individuals diagnosed with severe/profound mental retardation and other diagnosis.

My question is this: What is akathisia & tardive akathisia? The signs/symptoms. The drugs that cause these side-effects. I realize there are volumes written on these subjects, but what I need is a "quick fix"

Any help would be appreciated.
