I wrote this two years ago in july...i wonder what i was thinking about? Sometimes I find old poems I've forgotten about and remember how good i used to be at expressing myself. I think this one has some significance.
FEAR IS MY BEST FRIEND
Eyes wide, trickling with terror
Heavy emptiness in my chest
Of all the possible emotions
Fear likes me the best.My stomach turns inside-out
My mind begins to bend
Panic takes me out to lunch
And Fear is my best friend.I hate to be melodramatic
But I wish that you could see
I do not love to be afraid...
It's Fear that's in love with me.

In reply to ols poem...thought it was interesting., posted by cloudydaze on July 23, 2006, at 18:42:27
hi cloudy: I'm slowly reading the writing board and I just wanted to say that I really like this poem. Sounds like you're courting Fear. Reminds me of Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for death..." in a way.
I always find it interesting to go back and read my old stuff too -- especially during the times when I feel like I've lost my words.

Here is my favorite - I read it in a book about women with ADD.
"The lost thought"
I felt a Cleaving in my Mind
As if my Brain had split--
I tried to match it--Seam by Seam--
But could not make them fit.The thought behind, I strove to join
Unto the thought before--
But Sequence ravelled out of Sound
Like Balls--upon a Floor

I tried reading an Emily Dickens anthology once and was impressed by the obscurity of some of her poems.
I would like to have someone to read them with.
That one was good.

I was thrilled that one of my poems was compared to Emily's...
:)
I should really start writing everyday again...like I used to.

I really like alot of her stuff too...beauty madness death love religion
Two of my favorites:
MUCH madness is divinest sense
To a discerning eye;
Much sense the starkest madness.
T is the majority
In this, as all, prevails.
Assent, and you are sane;
Demur,you re straightway dangerous,
And handled with a chain.------and------
A CHARM invests a face
Imperfectly beheld,
The lady dare not lift her veil
For fear it be dispelled.
But peers beyond her mesh,
And wishes, and denies,
Lest interview annul a want
That image satisfies.
Not her deepest stuff, but they still speak to me.EL
