because you can't sleep (nor would you with the opportunity).
because whoever's scheduling lunches passed your free one yesterday (but you haven't been hungry for weeks).
everywhere you look you only see empty coffee cups (but at least you're drinking it black).
and you're still too frightened to see the doctor you promised you'd see in november (even if you saw her back then, you know something's wrong).balls! take it back, mcballs. hear the bell ring? that's class about to start and you'll make the dean's list but never have children because you neglect your health in the process. damn you.

Wow! I know I like this because I had to re-read it several times.

I've heard this expression "balls" said by Brits when annoyed or when something is bungled and as I read your poem I couldn't get my brother-in-law's (a Brit) voice out of my head saying "Oh, balls!" I can envision Renee Zellweiger as Bridget Jones reciting the first three lines of your poem.
Thanks for posting!

Well, bollocks! I like the rawness and the energy of this piece. Straight from the gut, no bullsh**. You may not remember, but you sent me a Bukowski poem about a zillion years ago in response to my piece "Crocs." I always did like art with a healthy mouthful of nice sharp incisors. ;) Atticus

and you are very talented (but i don't need to tell you that, even though i realize it's nice to hear.)
you really are though. i'm glad you're posting here. (and can you tell i've been using that word in place of other forms of profanity semi-regularly?)
This is the end of the thread.
