Jobs that require you to stand all day long.......

Posted by oldschool305 on December 19, 2007, at 18:11:57

Anyone else out there who cannot stand all day long due to feeling like crap? I don't believe it's because I am lazy (I'm not that overweight)... but I never feel good!!! If it's not depression, it's anxiety, or no energy, etc. I once worked for a cell phone company where I had to stand all day, I quit on the first day!!! I must have an office job, where I sit all day. Anyone out there the same way?

It seems like the ideal job for me would have a combination of activities, not sitting all the time, since that would cause me to get tired and bored.  Standing all day is also out since I have extremely low Bp and have a tendency to get dizzy and lightheaded.

So my choice would be a combination of standing, sitting and walking around.
Are you looking for a job now? When did you last work?  How do you address your preference of desiring to mostly sit when working or do you even bring it up during an interview?  I would think most employers would see this request as a red flag, not a physical limitation, unless you have a disability and sitting is the only position you can tolerate.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you and have you been diagnosed with any condition which would cause the problem you describe?

I guess many jobs are at a desk and this limitation really shouldn't be a problem. I too would be unable to stand all day, that is hard for most people except the very young or highly
energetic.

I've gone from a sitting all day job to a standing all day job, and its definitely a jolt to the system. But I seemed to adjust to it after a while.

I've also found, after years of a sitting job, that its really just as tiring to sit for hours on end, just in different ways (or different body parts). Either way you eventually adjust to a certain extent (disabilities aside), but I don't think its a natural state for our bodies.
