I can't get myself together

Posted by Deneb on September 21, 2005, at 6:02:46

I can't seem to function very well.

I need to start studying, but I don't know why I cannot.

I'm afraid of life. I don't know how to pull myself together. I procrastinate with sleep and reading posts.

I wish I had someone with me who can help me pull myself out of bed and go to the library to study.

My morbid thoughts are interfering with my ability to study. I have to clear my mind of all this useless thinking, but I don't know how. I think, I think maybe I have obsessive tendencies.

Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do to start studying and not think so much about bad things?

There is something wrong with my brain I think. I'm just so drained right now. I'm too young to feel drained. I don't even have the energy or motivation to chat with people online.

I just want to do nothing...absolutely nothing...just dream.

What do I do? I cannot be this way. Please help me people.

I get a lot of study done in bed (combining my two favourite pastimes).

Take a text book to bed and have a read...

I got out of bed and went downstairs for a while and watched some of this Chinese series with my Mom. It energized me a bit.

I've decided that I'm not going to try to study or worry about studying today. I am just going to take a break and I'm going to try to enjoy myself and not feel guilty for not studying. I study best at the university library anyways. :-) One hour of study at the library is like 3 hours of study at home. There are just too many distractions at home. I must have associated being at home with not studying.

What I'm going to do instead:

• Wake up at 7:10 tomorrow
• Eat some breakfast
• Go to the library and study until my class starts
• Eat some lunch
• Study until my next class starts
• Study until 5:30pm
• Go home and not study...just relax

I remember that when I did really well in one of my semesters, I did nearly all of my studying at the university and almost no studying while at home. I actually had spare time at home and I didn't worry about studying. This lessened my anxiety considerably.

Ahhhh...I feel better already. It is not too late to study. I've done some studying, but not much, but the semester has just started. If I really concentrate and study well at the library, (and I do think that I can,) I will be able to do well still.

Problem solve...that's what I have to do. No matter what the situation, there is always a way to deal with it (that doesn't involve hurting oneself).

The only thing that helps me when I get like that is to just do it. It is hard to get started, but once I do get started, its better.

I am telling you this and I could not make myself grade papers this weekend. lol

When I was very young I was so tired. I would wake up and could not wait to take a nap. I then realized that I had a low thyroid. Have you ever had your thyroid checked?

Your plan sounds good, Deneb. Sometimes we need a break.

I didn't go to school until my kids were older. But I did my best studying in a group. Another nursing student lived up the road and we went to school in the same car and studied together. Fondly, Phillipa

Sounds like a good plan!

Did you know you retain more if you take a 10 min. break about every hour? I learned that in psych. I aced everything when I did laundry and studied at the same time. It takes a load about 45 min, I'd get up and fold it, & study some more. I was amazed!

Best of luck to you!

Sounds like a good plan, Deneb. It is crazy how much the place in which you study can influence how well you study! I studied for about three hours at home for a physics quiz, and did abysmally, but half the time at a relaxed pace in school today (we had a class where we were free to study before the quiz) and think I did fairly well. It's also really important to have time to rest.

Best wishes!
