Nope. We have an office that deals with student exchanges though. You would probably have one too.

We have a list of institutions who we can 'exchange' with. You need to contribue a fair amount. Fees is just typical fees you would pay for your current institution. Have to figure in living costs. Airfairs etc. Typically need a B average to be considered. Great opportunity if you could swing it :-)

Summer is pretty much winter and vice versa.

Our academic year is different. Start first Monday in March for the 'A' Semester. 12 weeks of classes (two week break in the middle for easter). Couple of weeks study then exams. 'B' Semester (winter semester) starts in July and finishes in October. You would need to work that in to your academic year. Might be easier to come for a year rather than a semester.

Yeah, I went to Australia over last summer. From November 2003 till February 2004. It was great. A lot depends on where you are going though. Bit like the US I guess...

Here is a link to the University of Sydney

http://www.usyd.edu.au/

And here is one to Macquarie University (which is also in Sydney).

http://www.mq.edu.au/

They have a really cool 'Belief Formation Project' in Psychology / Cognitive Science.

If it is just that Sydney sounds cool (and you don't have ties there or anything) then it may be worth checking out some other places too. Melborne, in particular is quite nice and has a good univeristy. There are loads of others too...

Wow thanks!
that is awsome. The reason I picked Sydney was becasue I quickly looked on my school site and saw it, I should look again. I have always wanted to go to NZ and Australia, but I don't really know that much about them. If I do go and Im in Australia would it be a pretty easy trip to NZ? not that long a flight is it? What city would you recomend in Austrlia?
Thanks
Rain

NZ is maybe about 3- 4 1/2 hours to Australia (depending on where you are going in particular). I guess it is a fairly easy trip. Cheaper to get from NZ to Australia than it is to fly from the North to South Island within NZ most of the time.

I guess where you want to go in Australia depends on what you are looking for. Sydney is big. What it is like to live there probably depends a lot on where you are living. I know Macquarie is supposed to be in a fairly industrial area so you might want to live a little away from the uni or be prepared to travel. Melborne is typically known for a more historic flavour, fashion, trams and so forth. Brisbane is by the gold coast (awesome beaches - though increasingly tourist oriented). They get hail up there. Bad hail that will smash your windscreen :-) Adelade is supposed to be nice. Then there are smaller places if you aren't so keen on cities. There are great wine trails in some regions and so on.

When I went I went to Canberra. Bout 3 hours drive to Sydney and about 4 hours drive to Melborne. Sort of the best of both worlds - but there isn't an awful lot in between (national art gallery, museum, parliament house, awesome university - but that really is about it) :-)

In NZ we don't have terribly many universities. You can pick from
Auckland
Wellington (Victoria)
Hamilton (Waikato)
Palmerston North (Massey)
Christchurch (Canterbury)
and the student town!!!
Dunedin (Otago)

Maybe contact your exchange student office and find out which institutions your university offers exchanges too. You might end up with a list of only 4 or 5 or something like that. Then you can check out the cities and so on.

Oh, I have been to Tasmania too (The island just at the bottom of Australia). That is nice. Kind of like Christchurch NZ. The town itself is fairly conservative...

(By Australasian standards NOT American)

...but when you are part of a university community that doesn't matter so much. Cheap and easy enough to fly or ferry to the mainland (Sydney).
