I remember I went and saw "Streets of Philidelphia" the night it opened. I cried hard at that movie. A man was rejected from society because of a) his sexual orientation and b)because he had a horrific illness (that was no threat to anyone around him except sexual partners.) My Mom was a nurse with the Red Cross, and she worked with a large number of male AIDS patients. When I was younger, she sat me down and explained the facts of AIDS, and I also never, ever developed homophobia. Another man's sexuality was never a 'threat' to me. I eventually had a few good friends in highschool who where gay and bisexual. I shared some of the best times of my life with these guys.
Anyhow, I could really relate to the 'alienation' that Tom Hank's character experienced in the movie. But, his was more like being Jewish in Nazi Germany. So......just so so sad.
