Thought it might be fun to see what others do or did. I raised a family, taught aerobic dance , had own aerobic business and in 30's went to nursing school Magna cum laude. Still hold my license but not working as Don't want to go back to school as licensing laws change in 2008. Still have my current license just inactive now. Latest venture of husband and me is ebay which is fun. Love Phillipa

I always did office work - secretarial stuff.
My most interesting job was working as a personal assistant for a deaf-blind young woman named Mae Brown. I should actually look on Google to see if here story is there! She had an operation at 17 years of age (brain tumour); wasn't told that it could end up with her being deaf, blind, or BOTH - which is what happened.
The CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) helped her & eventually she went to university with an "interpreter". Got her degree & then CNIB created a job for her in charge of Deaf-Blind Services & I (who worked there already in Social Services Dept) was chosen to be her Secretary/Personal assistant sort of thing. It was really interesting. VERY challenging for someone as shy as I was, because everyone would look. Here we'd go down the hall with me holding her arm, while communication in the deaf-blind language on her hand. She'd go to schools & give talks, etc (with me being her ears). Pretty stressful though!
Currently, my interest/hobby of pottery is combined with me teaching handbuilding classes - only about 4 - 6 a year, but I really enjoy it.
Thx for interesting topic.

I'm a senior project manager for an engineering company. I get to travel less than I used to which is good. Luckily I've only missed one week due to hospitalization for my illness, and no one there knows what's going on with me anyways. I can put on a good "game face"...

Joan, the author of the book, was really nice...I suspect she was the one who taught me the deaf-blind language - my memory is bad, so I don't exactly remember who taught me!

***You're right Phillipa & being a parent is probably the single most important job in the world & the one that we receive absolutely the LEAST training for!!!
