I had a CT scan last week and all the bleeds in my head had resolved (thank god).
So today I went and got on a horse again. Yes, I had on a helmet the size of a watermelon and no it wasn't my horse - I'm not there yet.
I rode the horse that taught me to ride. Now he's going to teach me how to get my confidence back.
It was a great morning to ride - not too cold but kinda misty and dewy.
I was quite nervous tacking him up. I checked and rechecked everthing I know 5 times, but when I got on papa's back, I felt like I was coming home. I almost started to cry.
We just walked and walked. He was steady and calm. I love that horse as much as my own.
I've learned so much from horses, and I don't know, but it just seems like sometimes you have to be fearless and fight for something you love - whether it's your life or something as simple as riding a trusted friend on a beautiful morning.
You just have to push through the shaking and the anxiety and have trust and faith that it will turn out okay.
Of course, another thing I learned from horses (the hard way I might add) is that discretion really is the better part of valor ;).
Seldom.

Congratulations Seldom, I am having a hard time riding myself. Everytime I ride I lose the time. I check out and have a fugue. I don't know how to control it either. I have stopped because it is freaking me out.
I am thrilled that you are back in the saddle. rk

seldom,
you are very brave and I'm impressed. I hope you allow the horsies to heal your soul (keep the helmet on)hey, do they come with seatbelts and airbags yet?

you know, it's really not the horse that's the problem.
It's the GROUND that's the problem.
I just gotta stay off of it.

Or land standing up! LOL....actually my daughter got pretty good at this after a while.....once she had time to think I am going to be dump should I just jump off she did and land on her feet running with the horse and was actuallly quite gracefully. Unfortunately she was in a horse show and was ask to leave. I thought she should have at least gotten an honorable mention for nice exit off horse in an untimely fashion division.....

yeah, i've noticed that kids are really good at falling (they're like cats). Their reaction times are so fast that they can adapt to a rapidly changing situation a lot faster than adults can. Also they don't hit the ground as hard as adults do.
Me, when I go down, it's all about the thud.
One of the funniest falls I had was with boss mare who was just having none of me on that day. She did this half-hearted buck which sent me way forward. I grabbed onto her neck and was about to recover when she threw her neck very sharply to the right and I just slid right off. I Landed right on my butt sitting straight up. Meanwhile, she took off and I spent the next hour trying to catch her in the pasture without driving her into this 4 lane highway.
Ah horses...
I hope you can identify what is causing your dissociation on horse back, but until then I would DEFINATELY NOT GET ON ONE. You need to be "there" when you are on one.

Your are so right about kids. I admire the way they just go for it without any reservations. And their recovery time is amazing.
Me too. I have had to had knee surgery twice due to my falls.
Got to love them huh!!I don't think the fall was funny but I can picture you chasing her in the field rubbing your posterior region. I have done that too many times. Mainly though when someone left a gate open :)LOL and then we had to go chase them down..........
Glad though you are back and having fun....and have such a nice horse friend to reintroduce you....
Ride one for me. You are right I am staying away until I figure this out. rk
