FORGOT my PASSWORD it seems

Posted by Kath on August 16, 2007, at 12:49:30

I just went to do something where I needed my password. It keeps saying Bad Password when I try the words that I THINK are my password.

What the heck do you do when you seem to have forgotten your password (other than write it down next time!!)

:-( Kath

If you use Firefox, you can go to tools, then options, and then security (I think). There you'll see an option for passwords-- which will say, "Show passwords"-- you have to okay it, but then it shows you the passwords it's kept for visited sites.

I'm not sure if Internet Explorer has that feature-- but it may.

The other than to do is have a file, or list in a book somewhere, where you keep them. Also a lot of sites email you when you first join, and in the email are your user name and password. Not always, but sometimes. If you've saved those emails, you could check there.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kath, FYI in Firefox you would have needed to have it set to store your passwords for it to have been doing so. Is it a website you need to log into? If so, there is usually a link, often underneath the login area, for if you forgot your password. Otherwise, you could just email them.

If it's a program on your computer that you forgot the password for, the way to retrieve or change it could probably be found either in the instructions, by calling tech support/the manufacturer, or doing a good google search (lots of tips for all kinds of program-specific problems are available out there). Actually there are password-retrieving programs too, but those can be iffy and shouldn't be necessary.

Good luck!

I wanted to send a message to a Dr. Bob Deputy & I couldn't because I needed my password!

So it's my password here within PsychoBabble.

Thx, Kath
