Actually that test started up a fair argument in the office. Is philosophy a geek subject or not? I don't think it is particularly, but office mate disagrees.

I don't know much about math, science, or computing, and am not a star trek fan (though I do enjoy it) so I guess I am not that much of a geek after all.

It's normed on a "nerdical" population. So the test is not appropriate to compare for non-nerds.

Intrepret with caution. (Unlike I did...oops, I guess I'm such a wannabe that I misinterpreted my own results.) D'oh!

(Do I get points for the d'oh!?)

Remenber folks, the first number is the NOT nerd factor. The second one is the true score:

Here is the result of your 500 Point Nerdity Purity Test.
You answered "yes" to 279 of 500 questions, making you 44.2% nerd pure (55.8% nerd corrupt); that is, you are 44.2% pure in the nerd domain (you have 55.8% nerd in you).
According to the scoring guide, your nerd experience level is: You need some serious help
Your Weirdness Factor (AKA Uniqueness Factor) is 37%, based on a comparison of your test results with 29463 other submissions for this test.

I take issue with calling it 'nerd corrupt.'

And there is cultural bias. I don't know too much about star trek. And they didn't have a place for any of the other computer languages I've used (ada, lisp, cpp, etc)

Well. If we all sat the test again we would probably do better... It even allows for that - because what is more nerdy than studying to improve your score on a nerd test???

It might even be worth lording my score over someone or other, and lying on one of the questions... Anyone got a spare pair of spock ears? Does watching all the matrix movies (and short films) in one giant matrixathon count? What about discussing the comparative virtues of playstation 2 and x-box?

I don't know the conversions :-(
There should have been more questions about RPG's :-(
We don't get that television station (cultural bias!)
I think it may be slightly old too with some of the comp questions.
They didn't even count logic as a nerdy endeavour :-(

You guys know they are open to email suggestions for further questions and that you will be acknowledged - right?

Get up off the floor for a minute and help me review these rankings. My 63.8 was the "nerd pure" score, and both GG and alexandra_k reported higher nerd pure numbers. Yours was 54 point something, and I'm not clear if that was nerd pure or nerd corrupt. So who's the #1 nerd? It can't be me. If nerd pure is more nerdy, then GG and alex win. If nerd pure is less nerdy, then you win by a landslide, since we're all in the 60s and you're in the 50s.

Your original post did not make that distinction. I assumed you had converted it to normal language, as I did.

> Yours was 54 point something, and I'm not clear if that was nerd pure or nerd corrupt.

That was my nerd corrupt value, i.e. the nerdiness percentage.

> So who's the #1 nerd? It can't be me. If nerd pure is more nerdy, then GG and alex win. If nerd pure is less nerdy, then you win by a landslide, since we're all in the 60s and you're in the 50s.

I was thinking that was your nerdiness, and I was seeking to worship your female nerdiness. Worship hereby retracted.

Okay, I retook the test because I thought I'd saved a page with the test results, but it was a page requiring a form submission....i.e. I saved blank results.

It seems I misread a few questions (I took it in haste), and I remembered some answers that I didn't last time (my brain works like that, with background mode on).....

Here are my retest results:

"You answered "yes" to 295 of 500 questions, making you 41.0% nerd pure (59.0% nerd corrupt); that is, you are 41.0% pure in the nerd domain (you have 59.0% nerd in you).
According to the scoring guide, your nerd experience level is: On a first name basis with Radio Shack employees
Your Weirdness Factor (AKA Uniqueness Factor) is 40%, based on a comparison of your test results with 29463 other submissions for this test.

The average purity for this test is 62.5%."

OK, average purity is one thing, but how large are the standard deviations? Mean is useless without s.d., and can be further illuminated by mode and median values, or tabulated percentile ranks.

I don't know what the WF score is meant to show.

On first reading I didn't get the whole pure/corrupt concept. Doesn't "nerd pure" sound like it means more nerdy?

But anyway you slice it, you're the King Nerd, Larry! :-)

Yeah, but sitting a retest will improve your score. We should all sit a retest to be fair.

And they should have asked "Is your IQ greater than your body weight?" in "before Remeron" and "after Remeron" versions.

Oh come on! You get a mark for lying... I think... It is hard to know whether 'yes' answers add to your pure nerd score or not...

Besides which think how much you could learn in studying for it. Now go find a pair of mismatched socks!
