Well things are looking up! Sammy is slowly starting to accept my new cat, Byron. There is less chasing and attacking behavior, though it still happens. I see a steady decrease in it, though, which is really encouraging. Hopefully in a few weeks or months, relations between them will be 95% calm. That would be awesome! I don't want to give either of them away.

Hi there. I'm glad your cats are getting acclimated to each other. Wanna hear a bunny story?
I had a house rabbit and got a second one. They fought like crazy. I thought they would kill each other. Seriously, if you've never seen bunnies fight, it's terrible. They basically lie on their sides and kick with their hind legs. Their toenails are pretty tough, and the fur and blood flies. It's awful. They can do a lot of damage to each other in just a few seconds. So I separated my home with a long dog fence down the middle. Still a couple times one bunny would manage to jump the fence and attack the other and I'd have to rush in and separate them. I got so frazzled from worrying about them, separating them, not to mention constantly stepping over the 2.5 foot tall fence down the middle of my home.
Well one night I was awakened by the fence jangling and rushed into the bedroom expecting to have to pull them off each other again. But they were just sitting there side by side, which is what bunnies do when they're friends. One bunny had actually scaled the fence just to be with the other. After that they were the best of buddies. I never would have believed it would work out.

PG, thank God.....I am very happy to hear this. I did not respond to your earlier posts because I was somewhat distressed that you would displace the kitty you've had longer simply becuse the other was more appealing....I don't mean to sound critical or judgemental truly, which is why I didn't say anything before, it's easier to make decisions when you're not immediately involved, but I would truly have been saddened for Sammy....
I hope things keep up the way they are so that both kitties have safe loving home.
