Hi, guys,
I've been absent for a few days and missed the boards. I hope everyone is doing well.
I saw Kill Bill over the weekend, and was wondering if anyone else had, too? And am I getting old or what, because the violence and gore was so bad to me, it distracted me from everything else going on in the movie....and that's at least a literary no no, if not a cinematic one.
Anyone else have problems with that type of gruesome violence? Am I a prude?

I didn't see Kill Bill but you're not a prude. People have different preferences when it comes to movies. In my mind, things are becoming more violent in general (both life and movies). I used to be a big fan of suspense and horror movies and now I find myself shutting my eyes through the gory parts or avoiding the movies all together.
You may want to see Under the Tuscan Sun. It's a little slow but it very uplifting...

I have not seen "Kill Bill, but I did see Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs."
"Reservior Dogs" was the most disgusting, violent film I've ever seen. It made "Pulp Fiction" look like a Disney animated movie.
If you like Joel and Ethan Cohen go see "Intolerable Cruelty." I loved it.

I know Tuscan Sun got some mixed reviews, but I *liked* it. The landscapes were gorgeous, and I liked the whole idea of renewal after emotional devastation. Could it have been better? Yeah, but it was a great chick flick to see with my girlfriends.....

I've been sooo busy this weekend it's not even funny, or I would have seen that movie, too! It looks terrific, and I just had a friend tell me it lived up to *his* expectations, and he's a lot more critical about films than I am....
Maybe I'll catch it this weekend....

Now I want to read the book. And "Bella Tuscany", which is the sequel.
I just *loved* the scenery in this movie! It really made me want to move to Tuscany and write for a living.
Except that I already write for a living, and I hate it... :-b

The scenery was so beautiful! Maybe Dr. Bob can arrange a PB tour of Tuscany for us all. It would probably be good therapy. LOL

If you like beautiful scenery in a film, you have to see The Big Blue (and some beautiful male bodies in it helps too!!).. its about free diving, but the cinematogrpahy is awesome! It blew me away when i saw it!

Cool suggestion! I just looked it up on a movie site (I had never heard of it).
It's French, and it's directed by Luc Besson, one of my favorites. So I'll have to go rent it....

hey Susan, it's not just you. I walked out of Reservoir Dogs I thought it was disgusting. I liked Pulp Fiction despite the violence. I was looking forward to Kill Bill after Jackie Brown which I really loved. I thought being mainly female lead characters it might be a great women's movie like JB was.

I've seen Kill Bill twice. The first time there were a few scenes I had difficulty watching as I knew something rather nasty was going to happen and it is the anticipation rather than the actual act that gets me more often than not.I suppose the appeal of the movie will be lost on those who don't have a liking for anime and manga, spaghetti westerns, kung fu, and violent B-movies.

I also hate violent movies. I used to like spaghetti-westerns but today's violent movies have nothing of the romanticism of the former...
Plus, I hate the title. If I were called Bill, I'd protest in the name of all Bills, as it is something inciting violence against people by that name (at least in the minds of some psychos it might). I'd rather watch something called "Push Bush" :-) Or "Bore Gore". Perhaps "Bean Dean"? "Grunt Grant"?
