Hi - I am new to the board - sent a previous post but it did not show. I must have done something wrong. Anyway, I have just gone off meds and having a terrible time. I want to get pregnant but am not sure if I am pushing my luck (I already have 2 beautiful children) but I would love one more. My doc say zoloft is completely safe. I still wonder and want to do whats best for the baby and not myself. I am actually starting to wonder if I should just be happy with the 2 I have but besides my mom - I don't have any family (at least not in the USA) bottom line -I always wanted a big family since I grew up very isolated. I keep having terrible crying spells. My husband is great but he can't understand what its like to suffer with depression. When I am on meds I am really good. Any advice out there?

I don't have any direct knowledge of how safe Zoloft is in pregnancy. Maybe you could ask another doctor about Zoloft's safety. I do think that your state of mind is important to the development of your baby. If you're depressed, you're less likely to eat right, exercise, and develop positive feelings about your baby. Pregnancy has enough emotional ups and down, without adding depression on top if it. And don't forget the two children you already have. A year of a depressed mom can have a significant impact on them. If Zoloft is, indeed, safe during pregnancy, in my opinion, you owe it to yourself, your current family, and baby-to-be to be in your best emotional state.

Sorry if it's confusing here, but I'd also like to redirect this thread to Psycho-Babble, the board that focuses on medication-related issues. Here's a link:
