What's the best movie you've ever seen? If you have several, please name them. For example, name the best drama, the best comedy, the best horror film, the best film noir, etc.

One of my new favorites - a great movie with a great twist at the end - "Identity" with John Cusack. I don't think it's out on video yet - was just in the theaters earlier this year and didn't really make the big bucks, but I thought it was excellent.
Then, of course, there are classic children's movies that I love:
"Mary Poppins"
"Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"
"The Sound of Music"(can you tell that I like musicals?)
And, also in the musical category - "Chicago." I thought it was fantastically done!!!
Then there are the cheesy romantic comedies that I seem to watch over and over, since I own them on video - "Romancing the Stone," "Love Potion No. 9," "While you were sleeping," "You've got mail," and so on.

Ah yes, Woody Allen.

**************************************************Oh, I loved SLEEPER! That's so funny! I love the scene in which the scientists of the future are questioning him about various artifacts from the 1970's, and it turns out that everything we thought was healthy is unhealthy, and things we thought were unhealthy, like hot fudge sundaes, are really good for you. And let's not forget the Orgasmatron!

Hi Penny. Thanks for mentioning that John Cusack movie. Somehow, I don't remember reading about it, but now I'll look for it. I'm going to rent the video of CHICAGO next weekend. Every single person I know who has seen it says it's excellent.

Hi Kar,
Oh, CHINATOWN is great! It's now on some of those "greatest movies of all time" lists. Although it has a tragic ending, it seems like a nearly perfect movie in every respect. Apparently, the screenwriter, Robert Towne, wrote the script with more of a "Hollywood ending," but Roman Polanski changed it so that "it would have meaning." I won't give any more details, just in case some readers here haven't seen it. I also heard Polanski say that if he were to film the movie today, he didn't think he would be allowed the liberties he was given back in 1974, when it was made. He said that most studios now would insist on a happier, "Hollywood ending."

Hi upshutter. You know, I'm embarrassed to say that I don't think I've seen a Monty Python movie. A friend of mine gave ALL of the Monty Python movies to her husband for his birthday. I think I'd better "get with the program" and start renting some Monty Python!

Hi. Everyone I know has been recommending CHICAGO, so I'm going to rent it in a few days. I've been staying away from A BEAUTIFUL MIND because I thought it would make me depressed. I saw ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST years ago, but I haven't seen it recently because I didn't think I could "take it" right now; however, I saw CHINATOWN recently, and it's very sad, but I was able to tolerate it. Hmmm. . .

Hi Dinah,
The only ones I'm familiar with on your list are REGARDING HENRY and PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, and I liked both of them a lot. I saw another post of yours about Harrison Ford. I like him, too, although, I've been trying not to. I'm disappointed that he's become yet another mid-life crisis cheater who left his lovely wife for much younger "arm candy." But he's still likable on screen.

Hi gabbix2,
Ooooh! STRANGERS ON A TRAIN! Just the mention of it gives me shivers! I think Alfred Hitchcock's daughter was in that, wasn't she? If I'm not mistaken, I think she played the younger sister of the tennis player's fiancee.
I saw PONETTE and sobbed throughout the entire movie. It's such a good movie, but it was bad timing for me.

You haven't seen The Terminator? or True Lies? I thought they were classics....
"Nick Slick, Private Dick" has also been released as "Slick Honey". It is a porno satire of a Humphrey Bogart detective movie and quite funny (yes, my wife liked it too).
Another to add to the list is:
Best porno drama: "Three Daughters" produced by Candida Royale. Quite a good movie actually. Don't let the porno category turn you off, although it does contain explicit sex.
I saw Bimboland on television. It was great!
I know Testament, The Terminator, and True Lies were on televison.
I think The Life of Brian has also been on television.Hmmmm.... Maybe you don't watch enough television?.... :-)

Oh, I loved Leolo too, although the very beginning did make me a bit squeamish about eating tomatoes for a while.
