Attended a memorial service today = (((

Posted by zenhussy on July 5, 2003, at 15:12:55

Like things aren't difficult enough as it is caring for mum and dealing with the big important stuff out here. Today I went to the memorial service for the late partner of her best friend. Damn. Cried my eyes out and hardly even knew the man. Had only met him once or twice on previous visits out here.

Gonna be another long night of boozin' it up.

The straws are getting heavy on this camel's back. Sigh.

'tho it may not feel like it, crying is a good thing.

Think of those straws as hollow, and they won't weigh as much.

(I have one of those really cool straw dispensers that is clear glass, with a silverish top that you pull up, and the straws all present themselves like "pick me" "pick me" and it is reminescent of the old fashioned soda counter; I love it. I use straws because my teeth are sensitive to heat and cold--with straws, of course, it is cold.)

Hang in there, and have s'more vino. If it works, and you aren't AA, it's whatever gets you through.

Did you go alone? That is sort of extra hard.

Shar

Shar,

Yeah I went alone to represent my mum who is unable to get out of the house due to her injury. The church is a tiny one and was packed to the gills. Much laughter and love and tears. Very confusing day all in all.

I love those straw dispensers! You gave me a smile. Thanks dear.

No AA and never have been but after this trip if I continue on once I return home I'll be the first through the door to a meeting!

Yeah, whatever does get us through.

You've lightened the straws. Bless you sweets.

J,

The service was amazing. Truly lovely and he was in a gorgeous ceramic urn so non of that creepy casket crap to deal with. He was much loved and it showed by the sheer love that I was in the presence of in that church out on Indian Point.

I've got to hold off on gettin sauced until I go pick up the best friend from the reception to bring her here to get her all liquored up!! That's the plan mum and I have for her tonight. So being the driver I have to wait to go get her and then we'll begin our nightly boozin'.

I'm ok. Just off kilter. I'm sure I'll be up later and around when woozy.

Hubby can stuff it with saying things like that to you. Grrrr. Lemme at him!! Sorry you're getting that nastiness from the one who is 'for better and for worse' and now opting out during the worse. Bugger. Ugh.

Have bottle, have tears, will catch you later.

Thank you.

What a wonderful and brave thing for you to go to represent your mom, difficult as it may have been.

Have a drink for me.

Take care, zen.

Penny,

Thank you for acknowledging the bravery it took to go to this function not knowing barely a soul. However it is a tiny community out here where mum lives and after the service I introduced myself to a few people as my mum's daughter and they immediately asked after her health and her injury. Nicest folk out here.

Consider the drink done. I'm sauced nicely and about to take a quick soak and then to bed, hopefully...one never knows with this damnable disease whether or not sleep will come.

Thanks again for kind words.
