Cabbage Patch Kids and Therapy

Posted by rubenstein on November 4, 2005, at 20:20:14

I had an awful week, and had to go in for an extra session. I always feel so guilty when I have to do that. Anyway, I was at Target and really wanted to buy this cabbage patch doll, but I didn't because I felt stupid or something. Anyway, my T, in so many words, ordered me to go get the doll for myself. And you know, for some stupid reason I have felt so much safer since. I also feel like I can really trust him. And because of that.... I can finally say that it is brave to live.

So what is your child's name? You sound like you have such a nice caring T. :)

Would s/he like to come play with my bear some day?

Yay Rachel, that's awesome!!

This is really weird. I don't post often, and actually haven't posted or read in a few months, so it's funny that I stumbled upon THIS particular thread.
Because....

I actually bring my CPK to therapy with me! She is the first one I got, back in the early 80's. She's been through so much with me and we really have a connection. Don't even know how I started bringing her with me, but I have been for a few months. Sometimes T even holds her! Makes me smile. :)
I recently made something at Build-A-Bear, and have brought her with me a few times also, but she's new so we don't have that connection that I have with my doll.

Sometimes I feel silly, but I like bringing my doll... especially when I am feeling little. I'm glad you bought one for yourself and hope that she is able to comfort you like mine does.

I absolutly love my dolls. I think everyone should have a doll, or a teddy, or some kind of stuffy. They really help. They always listen, and they're always smiling. My T has said that I probably transfered a lot of my emotions onto my dolls when I was little.

You guys are so brave to take your dolls with you to T.

Her name is Maria
and it is amazing
but she is still making me feel safe
so CB kids for all
and yes she loves to play
and be held
and even though I am a 25 PHD student
it is okay to feel safe with a CB kid

My intelligent, serious, 52 year old husband has a Piglet. A little pink and grey stuffed animal. Sometimes at night while he is sleeping, he holds it clutched to his chest, his arm curled with it tucked in his elbow, a position worthy of any four year old.

There are times when comfort is hard to find, when safety seems elusive. If we can get find these things in a doll of stuffed animal, then we should, and damn the torpedos.

I have 2 CPK's that were my kids, well, the 2 yo still plays with them, but I wouldn't get rid of them because, like you said, they have a history, and I have feelings for them. I love baby dolls and some stuffed animals. They're just so cuddly.

Good for you R.
i have an old CPK from the 80's too. but he's safe and sound, it's my stuffed animals that take the brunt, every so often i force myself to wash them cuz they've been through so much but i always hold my breath to make sure they make it through the washer :)
hang on TIGHT!
